The Swiss Finance Institute supports and promotes promising research projects in selected subject areas. It develops its activity in complete symbiosis with the NCCR-FinRisk. The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) launched the National Centre of Competence in Research "Financial Valuation and Risk Management" at the end of 2001. FinRisk is an academic forum that fosters cutting-edge finance research, education of highly qualified finance specialists at the doctoral level and knowledge transfer between finance academics and practitioners.
The Finrisk research program is a bridge towards a structural research funding platform that the State Secretariat of Education and Research (SER) has decided to finance by means of a subsidy that will flow directly through the Swiss Finance Institute (SFI) as of 2012. Thus, SFI will be able to continue and expand on the path of the success that Finrisk has achieved thus far. Research funds are awarded on a strictly competitive basis under the supervision of the FinRisk International Scientific Council and all Swiss-based researchers are eligible.
The Swiss Finance Institute funds applied research projects as well.
