2012 International Private Banking and Wealth Management Retreat

Dr. Mario Bassi is Managing Director, Head Asia, of Solution Providers Singapore Pte. Ltd. He started his private banking career in 1983. Prior to Deutsche Bank he was with Bank Vontobel and Credit Suisse and relocated to Singapore in 2001. At Vontobel and Credit Suisse he held positions in relationship management, business and financial planning as well as training and development. Dr. Mario A. Bassi joined Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management (PWM) in 2005 as Head Strategy & Business Development for Southeast Asia. His key responsibilities included business strategy and sales development. His role evolved in 2007 when he took over the responsibility for Strategy & Business Development and Marketing & Communications teams in Asia Pacific. He was a Member of the Management Committee in PWM.

Ian Ewart is Head of Products, Services and Marketing at Coutts. He joined in March 2011 and leads the Marketing and Communications function and spearheads all aspects of sales and the client experience; he has overall responsibility for Products & Services. He is a Member of the Executive Committee of Coutts and also a member of the RBS Group Communications Board. Prior to joining Coutts, Ian held the position of Head of International Marketing at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. His career has been in strategy and marketing in international private banking and asset management. He has held a number of senior marketing positions, notably at Barclays, HSBC and Paribas.

Joachim Häger has been Head Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management (PWM) Germany since 2007. He is also member of the Global PWM Executive Committee. As Head of PWM Germany, Joachim Häger aims to expand on PWM Germany’s leading market position. In 2005, he became member of PWM’s Global Executive Committee and took on functional responsibility as the Head of Strategic Business Development for M&As around the world as well as for the expansion of high level advisory offers. In 1999, Joachim Häger transferred to the Private Banking area, where he expanded the bank’s business with highly affluent clients throughout Germany. From 2002 to 2005, Joachim Häger was responsible as a member of the Executive Committee of PWM Germany for operational business and the strategic development of the business division. From 1991 to 1997, Joachim Häger worked in the Global Banking Business Division and was responsible for mid-cap corporate client coverage. In 1997, he was given responsibility for expanding and managing business with corporate clients in Eastern Europe and Austria.

Dr. Harry Hurzeler is a Director of the Swiss Finance Institute where he is responsible for the Institute's executive education programs in advanced finance and in the management of financial institutions. Harry regularly speaks on Private Banking issues and leads the Institute's international Private Banking programs. Prior to his current role he was Managing Director of the Swiss Banking School until its merger into the Swiss Finance Institute. From 1985 to 1998, Harry worked for Credit Suisse in various roles, among them as Managing Director of CS Trust & Banking (Japan) and as Managing Director and Country Manager Japan for CS First Boston. Harry has a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, a degree in Business Administration from the University of St. Gallen, and was Professor of Mathematics at Ohio State University.

Dr. Hans-Joachim (Jochen) Jaeger is a partner of Ernst & Young’s Swiss practice and has been working in the financial services tax field since 20 years. Heavily involved in operational tax issues, Jochen currently heads and supports the FATCA assignments in various banks in Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands and Hong Kong. A frequent speaker at seminars, Jochen also publishes on financial market tax topics regularly. Before joining Ernst & Young in 2003, Jochen was a deputy tax director at Bank Julius Baer. He had been trained at a German private bank, worked as an option trader in London and afterwards as a tax advisor in Andersen’s Swiss tax practice. Jochen holds a Doctorate in tax law and a Master in business administration (finance & accounting) of the University of St. Gallen (lic.oec. HSG). He is a qualified Swiss tax adviser and a Certified Financial Planner CFP®. Jochen is also a member of the Swiss branch of the International Fiscal Association and also serves as a member of the taxation committee of the Swiss Funds Association. Besides this, Jochen teaches tax law at the University of St. Gallen (lic.oec. HSG) and at the University of Liechtenstein and teaches at various Executive MBA and MBL courses.

Jeremy Marshall graduated from Cambridge with a degree in History and joined Barclays. From there he moved to Bank of Montreal and afterwards to Credit Suisse in 1988, where he worked both in Zurich and New York as well as London. Whilst at Credit Suisse he completed his MBA at INSEAD. In 2002 he became CEO of Private Banking UK. Jeremy joined C. Hoare & Co. in April 2009.
He is a Trustee of various charities. Jeremy's recreations include playing golf (badly) and watching soccer, tennis and cricket

Christoph Mauchle is Head of Private Banking Germany, Austria, and Luxembourg, and has headed up local and international private banking activities from these countries since October 1, 2008. His task is to further consolidate the position of Credit Suisse in these challenging markets despite a very competitive environment. Christoph Mauchle has worked for Credit Suisse since 1992. From 2001 to 2007 he was responsible for Private Banking in the Zurich region, and as Region Head assumed additional responsibility for the overall bank in the region in 2006. In this capacity he made a substantial contribution to the strengthening of Zurich as the largest of the eight Swiss regions and to the further expansion of Private Banking. Christoph Mauchle is a highly experienced banker with many years' experience in the private banking industry. He holds a degree in business economics (HWV) from the University of St. Gallen, and is a Certified Financial Planner. He has also completed Advanced Management Programs at INSEAD in Fontainebleau and at the Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University in Chicago. In addition, Christoph Mauchle acts as member of the Board of Directors of Swisscard since 2004.

Houman Pakneshan is Director of Private Banking and Head of the Executive and Independent Professionals business units. Houman is advisor to the head of private banking on strategy & organization, he also trains private bankers in sales and marketing of financial services and products. Houman regularly speaks on private banking, executive remunerations and compliance issues. He is also a guest lecturer at the Catholic University of Milan. Prior to joining Bank Degroof, Houman founded and led “Executive Financial Services”, a boutique advising senior corporate executives since 2003. His activities were taken over by Bank Degroof in 2009. He also worked as Senior Financial Consultant at Merrill Lynch (Luxembourg).  Houman holds a Bachelors degree in Financial Management from HEC Saint Louis in Brussels.

Stephen Richards-Evans was appointed as Head for the West for Standard Chartered Private Bank, which includes responsibility for Europe, Middle East, India, Africa and Americas in October 2010. Prior to leading the West for the Private Bank, Stephen was the Head of Private Bank, North Asia for Standard Chartered based in Hong Kong. He joined the bank in Hong Kong on January 1, 2007 with responsibility for establishing the end to end regional private banking offering and operations. Stephen has over 27 years of experience in the banking industry: private banking, corporate banking finance, and international banking (trade and project finance). He has specialised in private bank leadership roles for the past 20 years in Asia and the Middle East, holding senior leadership positions in Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai.  His senior roles have involved strategy and policy formulation, overall business direction, control and management, oversight of regulatory relationships, and the direction and channeling of critical private client relationships. Stephen started his banking career in London in 1983 with Lloyds Bank International Ltd where he held a series of international officer and private banking roles culminating in Chief Executive Asia in 2000. He subsequently joined HSBC Private Bank and held senior roles in Singapore and as the Chief Executive, Emirates platforms and Southern Gulf States for HSBC Private Bank in the Middle East. Stephen is a fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Directors, and a former member of the Hong Kong Foreign Exchange and Money Market Practices Committee. He is a full member of the Hong Kong Securities Institute. Stephen is a fluent French, German and Italian speaker, who also speaks intermediate Chinese and basic Arabic. He is a marathon enthusiast and SCUBA diver. He collects contemporary Asian art and dynastic Chinese ceramics. He is married with four children.

Yves Robert-Charrue is CEO Switzerland and a Member of the Executive Board of Bank Julius Baer & Co. Ltd. He initially joined Bank Julius Baer as Head of Funds and Product Management. Before joining Bank Julius Baer in 2009, Yves was Global Head of Single Manager Hedge Funds at Credit Suisse Group and previously Head of M&A for its Asset Management Division. He was also Head of Product Development, Structuring & Implementation at Credit Suisse Private Banking.

Prof. Olivier Scaillet, Belgian, is professor of finance and statistics at the University of Geneva and has a senior chair at the Swiss Finance Institute. He holds both a master and Ph.D. from University Paris IX Dauphine in applied mathematics. Professor Scaillet's research expertise is in the area of derivatives pricing, econometric theory and econometrics applied to finance and insurance. He has published several papers in leading journals in econometrics and finance, and co-authored a book on financial econometrics. He has been one of the winners of the bi-annual award for the best paper published in the Journal of Empirical Finance on the topic of quantitative risk management and of the Banque Privée Espirito Santo award prize on the topic of mutual fund performance. He is also associate editor of the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics of the American Statistical Association and associate editor of the journal Econometric Theory. He is a long term advisor for the research teams of BNPParibas located in Paris and London.

Stephan Zimmermann is the Chief Operating Officer of the Wealth Management Division at UBS since 2011 and has been a Member of the UBS Group Managing Board since 1998. Before his current assignment, Stephan held senior management positions in various functions of UBS, i.e. Head of Group Internal Audit (2010), Chief Executive Officer UBS Deutschland AG, Frankfurt am Main (2009), Chief Operating Officer, Wealth Management & Swiss Bank (2005 – 2009), Head Operations Global Wealth Management & Business Banking (2002 – 2005), and Head Operations Private & Corporate Clients (1998 – 2002). Between 1975 and 1998, he worked at Swiss Bank Corporation, where he also took on assignments for the bank in Europe, the United States, Australia, and Asia. Beyond his immediate responsibilities, Stephan represents UBS in key cooperatives of the global and Swiss financial industry, i.e. as Deputy Chairman at SWIFT SCRL and Chairman of the HR & Compensation Committee of the Board as well as Deputy Chairman of the SIX Group Ltd. (Swiss Exchange) in Zurich. He is also a Member of the Board and Council of the Basel Chamber of Commerce.
